A Little About Me...

Maddie R Brooks | Providence, RI

Ever since I can remember I have felt at home in the theatre. From my first role as a soloist in my kindergarten cabaret, to seeing my first Broadway show, going on to be the president of my high school's drama club, and spending my summers volunteering with a youth theatre company, theatrical arts have been a constant part of my life.

A Rhode Island native, I attended and graduated from The Prout School in 2017 and set my sights on Boston. Emerson College became my home for the next four years, where I majored in Business of Creative Enterprises, with a focus in theatre and arts administration, and double-minored in History and Public Relations. While at Emerson I was an active member of several campus organizations. The EVVY Awards, the largest student-run, multi-camera live award show in the county, was a highlight, where I held roles such as Script Coordinator, Production Coordinator, and Gala Logistic Executive Producer. I also worked with Kidding Around, a TYA organization, as stage manager, attended Super Bowl LIV as a part of the Super Bowl Host Committee Volunteer Team, and spent a semester traveling Europe during my study abroad at Emerson's campus in the Netherlands. By the time I graduated in 2021, I gained an understanding and appreciation for many different areas of the arts. Still, my heart was calling me back to the theatre.

While studying law at Suffolk University Law School, I was given the opportunity the return to that same youth theatre company I got my start in all those years ago, Manhattan Music Man Productions, and assume the role of Director. Working with children and exposing them to the lessons that theatre can give them ignited a spark in me that had been missing for a while. From there, I was able to secure a position at The Talent Factory, first as a Theatre Teacher, then Theatre Director, which I continue to do in tandem with my present roles as Theatre Company Director and Director of Theatre. While I had always loved directing and creating art, my work at TF showed me my passion for arts education. Even having now graduated with my JD from Suffolk, I still find myself pursuing a career in theatre education.

Sometimes we are lucky enough to find a passion so strong that it becomes a fundamental part of who you are and what you hope to do with your life; I have certainly found mine in the theatre.
